What is the difference between ADD and ADHD?

Posted in ADD/ADHD on Oct 22, 2018

What is the difference between ADD and ADHD? Well, it's the H, right? That would be the hyperactivity part of it. ADHD kids are definitely easier to diagnose because they're kind of all over the place.  They're just kind of wired constantly, fidgety and non-stop getting into something.

The ADD kids typically are a little more timid, a little more quiet, appear to be more of a daydreamer, but they have a hard time staying focused and staying on task, also like the ADHD crowd, it's just the ADHD crowd they seem to have a hard time focusing because they're so busy. As where the ADD kids seem to have a hard time staying on task and staying focused, because it's like they're too busy wandering off into nowhere land. Now, the thing is the difference between the two is definitely the hyperactivity, but the cause can very likely be the same. Now, one thing I can tell you, the Ritalin and some of the medications they've been giving kids over the years doesn't fix anything. As a matter of fact, it kind of dumbs them down a little bit.

Turns them into little zombies. Now they are more attentive because they're giving them speed, but at the same time the hyperactive kids are now kind of come down more like the ADD kids because the medication's just kind of dope them up to where they don't even know exactly ... they're not even full attentive any more. Now, this is the thing, what we have found at the Upper Cervical Spine Center is we have hundreds, probably thousands of kids, a lot of them with ADD, ADHD, we've had a lot of adults with attention deficit disorders that have responded really, really well. Now how could a upper cervical chiropractor have any effect on attention and hyperactivity? Well, what happens is that we focus on the top two bones of the neck, and the top two bones of the neck have a huge effect on brain function. The brain travels in a circuit. Every thought, every memory, every emotion it all travels through the brain stem.

The brain stem comes down to the top two bones, so when these kids are trying to focus, if their thoughts, if they're trying to learn and the messages are getting distorted because of a misalignment at the top of the neck, then it makes them hard to understand when they don't understand something quickly, they lose interest, and so they have a hard time focusing. We have a lot of kids with dyslexia and learning disabilities, emotional issues, bi-polar problems, even anxiety in these young kids. What we have found is we can find a problem in the upper neck, if we can correct it, all of a sudden things start to work normal. The connections start to open up. Their thoughts start to become leveled out, their attention starts to come back and they can actually study and they can focus. It makes it easier. Now I can tell you, this actually happened to me. My own daughter was having some learning issues.

We had her checked from birth, but as we kept her under care, her ability to pay attention, her studying in school has gone through the roof, she makes straight A’s. But we can tell if she's been doing wakeboarding, eventually if she gets misaligned, if we don't monitor it, then what we'll find is it's harder and harder for her to pay attention and stay attentive in school. I've even had teachers call me and say, "Hey, Dr. Drury, you need to check your daughter. She's having a hard time focusing today." So, what we have found, again, is a misalignment at the top of the neck can be the missing factor with these ADD, ADHD kids and adults, and if we can find it, we can locate it, we can remove any interference to the normal function of the brain, then people have an easier time paying attention, learning in school, grades go up. I mean, it's really awesome.
